NATIONAL PET DAY – April 11 - Organic Pet Treats

Hi, Sweet Friends,

  Today is...

NATIONAL PET DAY – April 11

What is National Pet Day and why do we celebrate it?

According to NationalDayCalendar.com, National Pet Day is a day that we look after those pets in special need, like orphaned, shelter, or abandoned animals. The day event suggests bringing treats and food to shelter animals, take in a stray or abandoned animal, or helping someone who is unwell take care of their pet.

Here are some things that they suggest for celebrating National Pet Day:

"National Pet Day is an excellent time to do a few checks for your pets.
  • Go through your furever family member’s toys. Throw away any items that are no longer safe.
  • Maintain your pet-friendly home. Keep cords and toxins secure from your four-legged friends. This includes phone chargers.
  • Verify when vaccinations are due and schedule an appointment to update if they are due.
  • Check collars to ensure tags are secure and numbers are current. We sometimes forget to update this information when we move or change numbers."https://nationaldaycalendar.com

We are making some Organic Dog Treats today! We will drop them off to the local shelter for a treat for the Dogs & Cats, as they like them, too!

Organic Dog Treats

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup Creamy Peanut Butter (natural/organic)

    1 8oz. Container of Vanilla Yogurt (natural/organic)

    Directions:

    In a large mixing bowl,
Place Yogurt in a large bowl. CJD.Sign
    place Vanilla Yogurt
    & Peanut Butter.

    Add Peanut Butter to Yogurt.

Mix with a fork (or knife if Peanut Butter is cold) until creamy and fully blended.

Keep mixing, you are half way there! CJD.Sign
Keep mixing the two ingredients together until smooth and creamy. Below, my Peanut Butter was cold because we keep it in the fridge. If it is room temperature, it works much better.

Perfectly Blended Yogurt & Peanut Butter. CJD.Sign

TIP*** Roll the top of the ziplock type bag down past the zip part. This keeps it clean from the mix when filling the bag.

Put mix into a ziplock type bag and seal tightly.

Push the mix away from one corner. You will be cutting off 1/2 inch of this corner. (I gage it by my thumbnail)

Cut off the corner tip of the bag.

Throw away the cut tip of the bag. The animals WILL try to eat it and that's harmful to them.

Cut the end of the ziplock type bag about 1/2 inch from one corner.

I use the premarked guide on the Reynolds parchment paper.

Squeeze in round shapes on the parchment paper lined cookie sheet.
They can be close together because they will not spread but will freeze.

The more you make the more round they become.
These are for Dog size treats. I will make smaller portion treats for the Cat size treats.

Put them in the freezer with the tray flat.
This freezer has two compartments. It has a drawer and a bin. I have placed a tray of Dog Treats in each.

Place the cookie sheet in the freezer for 1 hour or until the treats are fully frozen.

Squeeze down the mix in bag toward the hole, be careful not to put out the hole.

Put remaining mix bag in the fridge until ready to finish making the treats. I trippled this recipe to have enough to give away!

Remove frozen treats from the parchment with a spatula.

Place the frozen treats in a large ziplock type bag and keep in the freezer.

This is an easy Pet Treat Alternative! Your pet will love you! We started making these wonderful pet goodies in 2012 and all our animals love them (P.S. they are even good for people!).

Try something new today! Your pets will love you for this one!

 Enjoy!
