Importan Dangers of Dog Collars

Hi, Sweet Friends,

Today, the pup injured his neck from his collar and pulling. He is OK, and I pray that it won't happen again. The pulling can do so much damage to their necks. I knew this from training Raider On The Go! when he was a pup. We do use a harness, however, he was on the leash and collar when the incident happened. I had heard of so many injuries from pups pulling against the collar, but this article I found called,

Dog Collars: The Hidden Cause Behind Many Injuries

by Peter Dobias, May 9, 2014.

really lays out the damage caused by a dog pulling on a collar. All collars are mentioned in this article and it is very important, if you have a dog or puppy, that you read this article. I am not promoting the harness he mentions, but we do like it and are currently investigating it more; the harness we use is HERE.

Some of the scary things the article mentions are:
  1.  Hypothyroidism (low thyroid gland hormone)
  2.  Ear and eye issues
  3.  Excessive paw licking and foreleg lameness
  4.  Neck injuries can cause a variety of problems, including emotional trauma
In addition to this article about Dog Collars, the website
features another article called, "A seatbelt harness saves two dogs from severe injury". We totally agree that seatbelt harness are the best way to travel with your dog in the car and the injuries dogs can sustain from not being secured, when riding in a car, are severe.

So, if your dogs health and life are important to you, you will want to consider other options than a collar and leash system for your puppy or dog.

Enjoy!
