Labor Day

Hi, Sweet Friends,

Happy Labor Day! This year Labor Day falls on Monday, September 3, 2018. Today is a day that the United States of America celebrates Labor Day. People gather together, picnic, BBQ, and enjoy the company of others.

Labor Day is a day that we mark the End of Summer! And well, we like to have a picnic, enjoy some end of the summer gardening, harvesting and plant removal, and take a drive up in the mountains.

Our local outdoor pool closes on Labor Day. Most of the schools have started by now and the cool days of Fall are just around the corner!

But have you ever wondered why?
Why do we celebrate a Holiday called, Labor Day?

Here's the answer that most rings true:
According to History.com The Labor Day Celebration became in the 1800's during the Industrial Revolution when American workers became the backbone of America. With unsafe and poor working conditions, children as young as 4 & 5 years of age working in factories, mills & mines, and the poor & immigrants pulling long working hours in horrible working conditions, Americans protested this problem.

There were many riots by workers and strikes became a way for workers to protest these despicable working conditions. Historical accounts like the Haymarket Riot, Chicago, in 1886, where police officers and workers were killed. This was the same time frame that the Labor Union was formed. The Pullman Pallace Car Company, Chicago, employees went on strike and the U.S. Government stepped in to break up the strike before a riot broke out. But the worst happened and more than a dozen workers were killed.
There was a march/parade on the First Labor Day where workers took the day off, without pay, to march against these unfair, unsafe, and child labor practices. It took many years until this became a National Holiday for workers in the U.S.A.
Chicken Kabobs on the grill! Here's the Back-Link for your Labor Day BBQ that is healthy and satisfying! Enjoy!

So, to honor those who endured so that we could live in a beautiful, econimic, and industrialized country, we celebrate Labor Day.
Happy Labor Day!
Enjoy,
