Calming Shaving Cream - Creative Day Thursdays

Shaving with Calming Shaving Cream by CJD.Sign

Hi, Sweet Friends,

Today we will be making a Calming Shaving Cream. This is the start of my Creative Day Thursdays for the DIY Gift Giver! Christmas is just around the corner and this year will be a bit different in gift giving. The gifts will be grouped together in categories of Guys & Girls. All the grandkids are old enough for many of the DIY gifts this year! So lets get making!

First on the list of Creative Day Thursdays is Calming Shaving Cream.

Shaving can be very harsh on your skin whether it is on your face or legs. Shaving can make the skin sensitive and tender. A good razor is recommended to decrease ingrown hairs, as well as, warming the skin in the shower or with a hot towel before shaving.

A bit of prepping the skin can also be done. Some examples are given here by RockyMountainOils.com  If your skin is sensitive, you can opt to leave out any essential oils and just make a basic shave cream.

I found a nice Rosemary Minty Shave Cream made with Mint & Rosemary Essential Oils here from foodformyfamily.com that leaves a nice refreshing feeling. This basic recipe seems to be the consensus for the DIY-er who makes shaving creams.

Another nice handmade shaving cream here is by mommypotamas.com adds Castile Soap to the basic recipe for Shaving Cream. Hubby likes the cleanness of the Castile Soap, so I will be making this recipe for Hubby for Christmas. Shhhh, don't tell him!

So on with a quick tutorial for making a

Basic Shaving Cream.

You will need the following Ingredients and equipment.

Ingredients:

1/3 cup coconut oil

1/3 cup Shea butter

2 tablespoons olive, jojoba or sweet almond oil

2 tablespoons liquid Castile soap*

(5 drops of Chamomile Essential Oil**)

Equipment:

 1/3 & 1/4 Measuring Cups

Tablespoon

Rubber Spatula

Large Bowl

Sauce Pan

Whisk

 Stationery Mixer or Hand Mixer

8 ounce Container

Directions:

  1. In a small saucepan, melt Shea Butter and Coconut oil over the lowest heat setting on the stove. Stir occasionally until fully melted.
  2.  Add Olive oil and stir until fully blended. Remove from heat.
  3. Transfer mixture to a medium-sized bowl or any size jar and place in the fridge until it’s solid.
  4. Remove from fridge and get ready to whip it up.
  5. If it’s in a jar you’ll need to transfer it to a medium-sized bowl first.
  6. Whip using a hand mixer or stand mixer. Scrape sides down as needed. Whip until fluffy ~ about 3-4 minutes depending on how cold your mixture is – then add Castile soap and whip until fully combined.
  7.  Spoon shaving cream into an airtight container and store in a cool, dry place.
  8. To the above recipe I will be adding:

5 drops of Chamomile Essential Oil**

    * *Mommypotomus suggests you dry your hands before you use this cream. The added water will decrease the products shelf life.

***As with any homemade/DIY skin care product, it is advisable to test your saving cream on the back of your hand to make sure you have no allergic reactions to any of these ingredients.

**Chamomile is a calming and soothing Essential Oil that is mixed with a Carrier Oil like Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, or Sweet Almond Oil.
