What Are The Sticker On Fruits And Veggies For?
Hi, Sweet Friends,
Today we are just chatting about What Are The Sticker On Fruits And Veggies For? Have you ever wondered? Or are they just a nuisance we have to put up with when we buy from the Grocery Store and not the Farmer's Market.

Turns out that stickers on fruit, the PLC-Price Lookup Code, not only allows the price to be scanned but it marks the country and the producer. The numbers are usually 4 digits with the first number being 4, meaning that the fruit has been sprayed with pesticides. If there are 5 digits and the first is 9, the fruit has been grown organically. However, if there are 5 digits and the first is 8, the fruit has been genetically modified. Hmmm..."Note To Self!"

Dirt.com mentions that the accidental biting of these "fruit stickers" is akin to,
The article mentions a company making a "truly biodegradable" fruit sticker in New Zeland, however, there isn't such a great push here in the US because we aren't as "eco-conscience" as greener parts of the world. They have more small farms and composting habits.
The article is worth the read to find out more information. HERE
In retrospect, I do think the stickers should not be eaten nor put into the compost, chickens, farm scraps, but I do keep one sticker for variety with apples, orange, and nectarine seeds. I place the sticker on the envelope inside the flap. This way I can ask the Farmer's Market folks what varieties they are growing and take advantage of the types I already enjoy.
Take care, investigate, and read more!
Enjoy!
