The BRATT Diet For Tummy Troubles

The BRATT diet. White Rice is better. Photo: CJD.Sign
Hi, Sweet Friends,
It is that time of year again and it is important that we and our little ones don't dehydrate due to diarrhea brought on by the FLU & viruses.

Since I was a little child, I've eaten the BRATT diet when I am sick. It fills up the tummy and binds so the acids don't just flow through. This is a difficult subject, but many of us and our children get rushed to the ER due to dehydration when ill.

The BRATT diet is one consisting of bland, low-fiber food and can be used safely for both adults and children. The traditional BRATT foods, and why this diet is called what it is, are a banana, rice, applesauce, tea, and toast.

This diet works as a treatment for diarrhea and upset stomachs because these are high-binding foods that help firm the stools. They are also salt-free and don't have spices to irritate the stomach and bowel. Bananas are a high source of potassium, which needs to be replaced after vomiting and diarrhea.

The BRATT diet may sometimes include any bland foods that will not irritate the stomach because sometimes the only solution is to wait it out. Remember to keep the foods bland and simple.

I know this helps us. I hope it will help you, too. In addition, Chamomille Tea and Basil help in healing, too.

Enjoy!

Dairy Free Ranch Dressing Recipe ~ Friday Foods!

Hi, Sweet Friends! This month I have joined some Facebook Friends in a group that shares salads for the month of May. Here is one of the dressing recipes I have tried. Dairy-Free Ranch Dressing is made with yogurt and mayo. It is very much like the consistency of regular ranch dressing.
So, be prepared to see many salads and dressing recipes this month!
 Dairy-Free Ranch Dressing Recipe
1 C mayonnaise
¼ C dairy free plain yogurt
1 t garlic powder
1 t onion powder
1 t dried parsley
salt & pepper to taste
¼ t dill weed

Whisk or blend until smooth. If too thick, you may add non-dairy milk to desired consistency. I have used a similar dressing and added a 1/4 teaspoon of dried onion flake.  I do hope you try this one. If you do please let us know how you liked it in the comments below!
