Healing Is Your Responsibility
I came across an article that was truly profound and helped me to see something I never had before about the trauma I have suffered throughout my entire life. The article, "Trauma Is Not Your Fault, But Healing Is Your Responsibility", byBy January Nelson is a short read and spot on. I hope you take the time to read through it. It may change your life. It has for me.
I am learning that the trauma inflicted on us from others is not a badge, a banner, or a label. The trauma is NOT who we are. It is NOT our fault. We are not the pain, the torment, the sorrow, the shame. We are who we become after going through the trauma and healing. We are stronger and "get on with living, or get on with dying," as R.J. Pawlick says. see notes below.
In this life, there will be troubles. No one escapes unscathed in this life. It is who we become for ourselves that matters.
Yes, life has ups and downs, but when we move past or through these trials and trauma we become "changed" either for the best or the worst. We make that decision and that decision is who we become.
It is our responsibility to heal and move on with our lives. No one said it would be easy. My spinal surgeon once told me, after my third major back surgery, that to learn to walk again requires baby steps. I hope this article, above, can help you as it has helped me to move on and see through the trauma that has been stifling the person I have always wanted to be.
