MAD Hubby's Tons of Calories Cake
Hi, Sweet Friends!
This is a treat from 3 Decades ago! I use to make this for my children's special parties, reunions, and once for a friend's AA Meeting.
********MAD HUBBY RECIPE ORIGINAL********
MAD Hubby's Ton of Calories Cake
Ingredients:
1 pkg. German Chocolate Cake Mix
1 cup Chopped Pecans (split as 2/3 in between cake, 1/3 for cake top)
30 Caramels
1 stick Butter
3/4 cup Dark Chocolate Chips
1 can German Chocolate Frosting ( or Powdered Sugar for dusting the top)
Directions:
1. Mix the cake mix as directed (with oil and eggs and water per box directions).
2. Put 1/2 of the cake mix batter into a greased and floured 9"x 13" baking pan (glass works best).
3. Bake the 1/2 cake layer for 18 minutes at 350 degrees.
4. Remove from oven and set aside.
5. Melt the butter and caramels together in the microwave on low until you can cream them together with a whisk or on the stove top in a double boiler.
6. Pour the caramel liquid over the baked cake layer.
7. Spread evenly with a spatula.
8. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and chopped pecans onto caramel layer.
9. Pour the rest of the cake batter over the caramel layer.
10. Bake another 10 minutes.
11. Removed from oven and let cool.
12. At this point, choose to leave the cake as it is and serve or ice the cake with the can of German Chocolate Frosting and top with remaining nuts.
My son took this cake to his Cub Scouts Bake-OFF back in 1990s and it was a WINNER! Now, this cake has a bit of history and has truly evolved into this yummy. First, it was a Knock You Naked Cake, then at this event, it became "Grandma's Cake" and has evolved with the addition of MAD Hubby's additives
We found a similar cake that calls for evaporated milk and makes it a bit more like brownies than a cake.
