Hi, Sweet Friends,
Dark Opal Basil, Sweet Basil and Tri-Colored  Sage Styling With CJD.Sign

I love basil. It is delicious and so versatile. I have grown basil since I was a kid living in the South. Basil comes in over 100 varieties and is a relative of Mint.

Basil can be grown from seed or established plants. I have grown basil in many varieties.
  • Sweet Basil is good for a sweet-tasting mild basil flavor.
  •  Garden Basil has a clove-like taste and a dark leave.
  • Genovese Basil is from Italy and good for a more pungent basil flavor.
  • Purple Basil is pungent and robust. Our favorite it Purple Opal Basil.
  • Thai Basil is aromatic and smells of Licorice.
  • Spicy Globe Basil is a compact plant with tiny leaves and a peppery flavor.
There are over 100 varieties of Basil!! Seeds can be planted throughout the growing season outside or anytime indoors.
If keeping the basil outdoors or in the garden, pull up the whole plant, shake off the soil, rinse the roots under cool water to remove any dirt, and hang upside down roots and all! *Chop off the roots and hang by the stems in the photo above like the "Drying Mint" photo.

Keep them on a sunny window if you are keeping them inside. Pick the leaves off as needed in fresh salads, cooked dishes, or to pop into a glass of ice tea!! Yummy!
Purple Basil is great tasting medium flavor, Basil. It is beautiful as a garnish or as a pop of color in dishes.
I start seeds in the Spring and do plantings throughout the planting season. I bring in my potted basil to use fresh for cooking.
