DIY Journal~ Part 3 Journal Cover

Hi, Sweet Friends,

This is Part 3 of the Journal Cover DIY.

The first is a bit of recap and you can find the Journal Cover Part 1 HERE
The second Part 2 of the Journal Cover, you can find HERE.

To recap, we just finished the inside front cover and pocket for a note or special card. But there is MORE!

I added a fun pop out for an ink pen inside the front cover!
Here is how to do it:
Take a rectangle scrap of printed paper (I used one that would coordinate with the other papers in the book), and put a pleat in the bottom by folding the paper piece slightly into the middle and the other side towards the middle.
Fold the bottom to the back and make a strong crease. Tacky Glue the bottom and sides of the rectangle to the center of the pocket area of the inside cover. It is just that simple!
Now flip the journal open to the back cover.
We will be working on the pockets and ribbon marker for the Journal. In Part 2, the back cover was glued down like in the photo above. Please accept my faupax for the word Manilla Envelope and please replace it with the word "Manilla Folder" or "File Folder". Thank you, hubby, for the correction, however it is too late on the photos.   :(
Take the Manilla Envelope/File Folder, it can be used or new. We will be cutting this to make a top loading pocket for bound note paper or notepad.
I don't have the dimensions of this pocket, however, I will be doing at least 5 more, and will add the dimensions later.
Just make the pocket a rectangle and cut the top at an angle. You remember Geometry, right? Make the patterned SB paper larger to cover the manilla folder/file folder and lap over all edges.
Don't put your manilla shape too close to the edge or there won't be enough patterned paper to fold over the shape of the pocket like it is in the picture above.
Use a patterned paper with lots of color/shapes/interest to put on your pocket. Outline with a marker.
Place the paper so that the pocket will stand out against the back inside cover.
Here is the final piece. I did cut a bit close to the top line. It is advised to leave a little more room, 1/2 inch or so, around the pattern.
Manilla File Folder :)
Use a glue stick to adhere the pattern paper to the manilla  piece.

Put the pocket aside to dry. Open the Journal to the back inside page.
The instructions for this tutorial on the Parts 1 and Parts 2.

Instructions for the Inside Back Cover:

I used a 12x12 inch Scrap Book Patterned Paper.  This Composition Book meausres 9.75in x 7.5in so cut the paper 11.75 x 12 or just adjust the folds. I had to use two photos to get the whole page in.  Pict 1  Fold the paper at the two folds glueing only at the top edges. This will make your pocket for the back of the journal.
Pict 2. This is the large part that will cover the inside of the back cover.
This patterned paper will over lap the back cover to make the last pocket, as shown above. Use the glue stick on all edges of the folded pattern paper and lay it on the back inside cover and press down. Then wrap the rest around the back cover, making the pocket.
Add Tacky Glue to the edges of your Manilla Folder pocket, as seen in the above photo.

Place this at the back cover corner of the journal as seen above.
Next is the Ribbon Book Mark:
Cut 2 length of 1inch wide ribbon: 1- cut 2 1/2 x's around the entire journal from top to bottom. Cut at this length. My Journal is 9.75 (multiblied by 2.5) is a total length of about 25 inches. So I cut the first ribbon at 25 inches. For the 2- cut 2x's the top to the bottom of the journal. My second ribbon is cut (multiplied by 2 x 9.75) at 19 inches.
Put Tacky Glue all on the edge of the back as shown above. Let this sit a minute or so to allow it to get a bit sticky. Place the longest ribbon on the back as shown. Fold in half to measure half way and place in the middle of the book on the spine edge. Leave the ends for now.
Take the shorter ribbon and place it right next to the first ribbon. Measuring the middle, again, by folding the ribbon in half.

Make a double point on the ribbon by folding the ends in half and cutting across the ribbon upwards from the bottom right to the top left. See photos above.
Let the glue dry on the ribbons until it is clear and dry. Mine took 3 hours to dry. I think it was because I did mine in winter and it was snowing out.

This is the last step for the back cover:
Turn the book over to the front and open again to the back cover. Take the longest ribbon and tie it in a know in the middle of the back inside cover.  The other ribbon place somewhere inside of the lined journal pages.
AND On to the Cover FRAME!

That's it for the third post.
