23 Kitchen Hacks and Tips

Hi, Sweet Friends!
We are getting off to a quick start with a rice trick that works great in all sized jars! I even doubted the first time and had to try it again on a tougher stained jar.
Hard to clean jar.

Long Grain Rice 
AND this WORKED! Wonderfully!! 
1. Rice to clean a difficult bottle.
About 1 Tablespoon Rice.
Put rice grains into the soapy jar.
I used warm water, a few drops of dish soap and 1Tbs. long grain rice.
Shake the jar vigorously and then...
Shake the jar vigorously.
If this does not clean it the first time this is tried, simply do it once again.

Rinse the jar.


No more gloppy food stuck in the jar!
Put the rice in the soapy water.
Shake vigorously!!

The second jar was a Tabasco bottle with caked on goo. And, though I did try the bottle brush, I just couldn't get into the area where the goo was. So, I tried the rice trick and it worked wonderfully!
Rinse the jar!


The jar is clean!


Clean & Shiny Bottle

  2. Filling a Zip bag with liquid.

Place your zip bag inside an empty pot. See above.
Pour carefully into the bag
Slowly, pour the liquid into the zip bag. Carefully hold the bag sides up as you put in the liquid.
Close the zip bag, gently squeezing out the air.
While the bag is still in the pot, zip the bag shut, gently squeezing the air out of the bag. This works perfectly. This delicious Chicken Soup is great doubled and the leftover placed in the freezer to use for another meal.
Place in the freezer for later!
This works wonderfully. No fuss & no mess equals happiness!

Red Onion
7. An easy way to peel an onion.

        Cut off the ends.

Peel off the outer layer with ease.

Place like items in bowl when cut.
8. Cut up like items for stir-fry. Prepping veggies will save time before you cook.
Save Egg Shells for the compost.
9. Egg Shells are a great addition to the compost. The plants love the calcium. Putting crushed eggshells in the garden helps to prevent slugs & snales from getting at the treasured veggetables.

10. Muffin Tins are more than just for muffins! Putting breakfast egg muffins into mini muffin tins is a great way to have a light meal.
   We have made Brownies, Muffins, Cupcakes, and Breakfast Quiches, like below, in these mini muffin pans.

13. A roasting pan is great for keeping the fat out of the meat. This is a terrific roasting pan! This roasting pan has a rack that can be removed. We have cooked Turkey, Chicken, & even Roasts on this roasting rack and pan. Found at Target.


Swanson Flavor Boost
14. Swanson's Flavor Boost. This is a great way to get flavor and fast! We use this in our soups, stews, and in the crockpot. Swanson has many flavors.

15. Day old bread makes great breadcrumbs.
This French Bread has been heated in a low 200* oven for 30 minutes.  Leave out to cool and harden a bit.

Sit 1 hour.

Slice Bread and let sit on the board to dry for another hour.

Bread cubes.
Cut into cubes and add to stuffing, make into flavored croutons, or put them in a zip bag and put them into the freezer for later.

16. Cut Green Onions and Freeze for later.

 Wash and slice into small pieces, green onion green ends. We get bunches of Green Onions when they are on sale.

 We cut them and put them into zip freezer bags and pop them in the freezer. This saves time and makes an easy add in to dishes.

17. Save the whites of the green onions and regrow them in a cup of water. Place on the windowsill and change the water daily. They will be ready to cut in just days.


18. Farm Fresh and Free Range Chicken Eggs are not from chickens with hormones and antibiotics.
We have raised our own chickens for the past 3 years. Our Sister Chicks are from many chicken breeds.  They lay between 5 - 8 eggs per week. Our Sister Chicks roam free in a large fenced enclosure and enjoy a large Chicken House at night.
19. Here is a fun way to make Chick Deviled Eggs! 
Cut the eggs in half, width wise.
 Make the egg mixture and put it back in both ends of the egg whites.
Add a couple pieces of black olive for eyes.
Add a tiny piece of carrot for the beak.
Too Cute and fun for Easter Dinner!

20. Crock Pot or Slow Cooker meals are such a time saver! You place the ingredients inside, turn the dial to the desired hours of cooking, and it is that simple.

Crock cooking is a great time saver.
Involve the next generation in cooking!
21. Having children in the kitchen is a good thing! Teach them young and they will never forget it.
22. Heat your tortilla over the hot food. This works very well when you are cooking, to place the tortilla on top and let it steam soft.
23. A Rice  Cooker is a time saver.

We plug in the cooker, place the rice and water in the pot, and turn it on to cook. In 20 mins, the rice is cooked wonderfully. There are no pots overflowing with rice water burning on the stove top. There is a warm setting that works great for warming leftover rice.



I really like these hacks and tips. Many save time and most save aggravation!
