What's With The Toilet Paper? What Is Going On?

https://images.inuth.com/2017/03/toilet-paper-480.jpg Hi, Sweet Friends,

Well, this new Toilet Paper Crisis seems to be hitting all of us all over the US and possibly other countries. When people panic, the do weird things like hoarding toilet paper. If this has not affected you yet, you may want to stock up. I did say stock up and not hoard. There is a difference. We use one of the large packs of 12 double rolls each month. Suffice it to say that if we had a few 12 packs, then we could get by. However, we are down to our last two rolls. Yes, this hit our town and surrounding towns without our being aware of it. Between the Lysol and the TP, someone's making a killing!

That all being said, What do we do when we run out? Is there a way to use something else without clogging the toilet and causing even more of a mess? What about reusables or wipes?

Toilet paper hoarding frenzy hits Kaysville Police ... After looking at these questions I popped over to our Homesteading group for some ideas on TP alternatives. Here are some of the ideas I found. I did not post the way out there ones!!  We will be using a few of these ideas.

  •  Easy... Save your newspaper and sales paper (Anything paper) now gently rub it between your hands. You can make it really soft that way. Cut it into TP Strips.
  • Use leaves. When I grow Lambs Ears, we use them for bandaids, why not for TP. Soft, organic, and flushable. CJ
  • Use peri-bottles LINK
  • Cut up old T-shirts as cloths or use old socks.
  • Use baby washcloths and wash.
    • Buy washcloths *Found some at Walmart for a few $.
  •  Family cloth is a thing Family Cloth
  • Get a diaper pail, get cheap washcloths and color code for each person. If a #2, then after flushing the job, swish the cloth in clean water and place in the pail. Soak, swish in clean water...can use toilet and machine wash ... wash in hot water...just like cloth diapers... takes some time/work but it works... If you are timid about it, buy rubber gloves... I never did with the diapers...just washed them afterward...
I'm not sure this could be avoided now. I just read that there are people on the internet price gouging TP for $75 per roll. CRAZY!

So, this morning at 6:15am we drove out to Walmart. No Toilet Paper! No Hand Sanitizer, Alcohol, and Peroxide were down to a few bottles, Cold and Flu meds were few and some brands none. The handwashing soap aisle was empty except the higher-priced decorative bottles that have less than half of the amount the other brands have.

Coronavirus fear: Australia family buys 12-year supply of ... What we did find at the store were other more expensive products we use to use toilet paper for, because it was cheap. We picked up flushable wipes, paper towels, napkins, tissues, and baby wipes for our face. By the end of the day, Hubby ran out to get flour and yeast to make bread and went to 3 grocery stores before he finally found it.

By this time, we started to question what the heck was going on. Yes, we are empty-nesters with no reason to know that the schools had just announced their closure until mid-April! And that the hospitals wanted only ER patients, no visitors, and that many surgeries had been canceled. We had been so busy with our packing that we hadn't been keeping up with the news.

Our young children and the elderly are at the highest risk.

Not panicking, but wanting information, we started our inquiries.
We checked with the local Walmart, Safeway, and City Market Delivery Services and as we filled our online-carts for our items, we noticed after a bit that our final totals were decreasing rather than increasing in the total amount. Taken aback, we realized that as quickly as we were adding products to our "cart" they were being sold and thus "out of stock!"

We have not encountered this type of occurrence except before a huge snowstorm or hurricane. And we remember the "Gas Crisis" in the 1970s during the Carter Administration where the gas lines were long and the gas shortage was handled by designated "gas days".
"In 1973, that Middle Eastern leverage would show its strength when OPEC placed an oil embargo on the United States due to its support of Israel during the Yom Kippur War. After the sanctions, the price of gasoline increased by 37 percent. But more than that, its supply became severely limited. Rationing and long lines for gas were common at stations. Thievery abounded; stations began locking their pumps and drivers began sealing their gas caps."

This current shortage on the grocery shelves has been truly disheartening. Some of it is that those with dire need of products can not obtain them because of people hoarding food, paper products, and cleaning products and it isn't stopping there.

This problem is Nation Wide. I've heard from family/friends on the East Coast from New York to Florida, From Mississippi to California, and from Washington to Arizona, and "sea to shining sea!" No one, in the USA, seems to have escaped this panic crisis.

And to throw a monkey wrench into the mix, there is a nasty computer "malware" going around that attacks the pc when someone looks up information on the coronavirus. We received an urgent email and I'm giving you the info here:
"Take precautions when looking up covid-19 information. Here is the reason why:

Our advice, don't look it up. We tune into Fox News or other news agencies for information. Facebook is not always reliable and we don't want mass panic.

"How to avoid coronavirus scams

Potential scammers have been taking advantage of panic surrounding coronavirus outbreaks, according to the Federal Trade Commission.
Aside from showing up to your door, scammers could try to impersonate the CDC or other health officials through social media, emails, texts and websites.
Here are some tips from the FTC to help ward off scams:
  • Don't click on links from sources you don't know. They could contain electronic viruses that could harm your computer or devices.
  • Watch out for messages claiming to be from the CDC or other experts who say they have information about the novel coronavirus. Verify the sender or email address on any of these messages. For the most up-to-date information on the virus, visit the CDC website and the World Health Organization website.
  • Be suspicious of so-called 'miracle cures.' There is no cure for the coronavirus yet, so anyone claiming to have vaccinations or other treatments for the virus should be ignored.
  • Do your research before donating to a charity or purchasing a product. The organization or product may not be legitimate, and it could be a scam to take your money."-CNN

Our children and the elderly are at the highest risk.

The CDC sent out a message about what to do in this type of medical crisis: LINK
Here are a few things to eat that will help you stay healthy:
 All natural immune boosters
Raw honey
Zinc
Vitamin C
Citrus fruit
Quail eggs
Broccoli
Garlic
Turmeric
Poultry

Chemical based products tend to make things worse. Try all naturals; they've been around for years.

Stay smart, stay safe, and stay healthy.
I do pray for this country to stop this mass panic and realize that we have been through illnesses before. Quarantine yourselves and your family if sick. Stay away from large crowds. Wash your hands with soap and water frequently. Keep your hands away from your face and mouth.
In conclusion, I have quoted an email that brings it all together. We will get through this, together.
"Friday, March 13, 2020

Dear Friend,
Late Friday afternoon, President Donald Trump declared this Sunday, March 15, a National Day of Prayer.
He stated, "We are a Country that, throughout history, has looked to God for protection and strength in times like these…."
After declaring a national emergency as America deals with the coronavirus, President Trump called on all Americans to lift their voices in unison in calling for God’s divine intervention.

President Trump reminded all of us, "No matter where you may be, I encourage you to turn towards prayer in an act of faith. Together, we will easily PREVAIL!"
AFA is joining the President in calling on all Americans to join together this Sunday in prayer, that God will protect our nation and its citizens during this national crisis.
Please share this urgent message by forwarding it to all your family and friends.
Thank you,

Tim Wildmon, President
American Family Association"
