Growing Tomatoes - Monday Mayhem

Hi Everyone!
Today we are talking Tomato!!

Tomatoes are such a versatile fruit, YES, Fruit! But the fruit is used as a vegetable. Tomatoes Botanical Name is Lycopersicon esculentum. Tomato is a "Nightshade".

"...often red fruit / berry of the nightshade Solanum lycopersicum, commonly known as a tomato plant." From Wikipedia.
The Montrose Tomato Company in Montrose, Colorado   http://www.montrosetomato.com/
is an informative site for local vegetable growers as well as Organic Food Lovers!! Check them out for great detailed information on many tomato varieties.
Where should tomatoes be planted?
Plant tomatoes where they will receive 6 to 8 hours of sunlight a day.
What soil should tomatoes be grown in?
Tomatoes love a PH soil of around 6.0 to 6.8. The pH is a measure of soil acidity or alkalinity. The acidic/alkaline amount in the soil is important for the tomato to grow healthy.

On the pH scale, 7.0 is neutral; so the range which tomatoes prefer is slightly on the acid sid…

Drying Rose Petals

Hi Everyone! Happy Saturday!
Drying Rose Petals is very easy and with a flat basket they dry fast and even.
Because I love tea, I use dried rose petals in my teas as an extra punch of Vitamin C.
I also use them dried for potpourri around the house. This is just a simple thing to do when your roses are just past full bloom. I like collecting different roses for a neat blend of potpourri for gifts.

If you are a salad love like me, you can add fresh rose petals in your salads! I love them! Hubby does not like foreign matter in his salads, so he opts out.

Enjoy!
God Bless You!CJD. Sign

Harvesting Broccoli & Recipes ~ Friday Foods

Harvesting Broccoli is an easy process, but it is important to harvest the broccoli crowns while they are tight heads and not yet flowered.  And I can only think of one person I know who doesn't like Broccoli and that is President George W. Bush.

Once they flower, it would be best they just go to seed for your next years crop. However, you can eat the broccoli leaves and they taste like broccoli too!

First, take off the largest head in the middle of the broccoli plant, this is the "Broccoli Crown".
Use a sharp knife and cut at the end of the stem, taking some of the leaves with the broccoli head.
Look inside the cutting area and you can see the tiny secondary heads forming. Leave the smaller heads to develop and cut to harvest the same way as the larger broccoli head. It's great to harvest your hard work!

Wash well and cut the broccoli head away from the leaves. Cut the broccoli as you wish for how you are going to cook the fleurettes.

For the leaves, remove the stem a…
